Clean, up-to-date books every month — captured, reconciled and explained in plain language. We look after small and medium businesses, sole proprietors and start-ups across South Africa from our Pretoria East office.
Pick the pieces you need or hand us the lot. Either way your records stay accurate, your deadlines get met and you always know how the business is doing.
The core service: every transaction captured, every account reconciled, every month.
Monthly or quarterly reports that show exactly where the money is going — and where it's leaking.
Year-end financial statements for your (Pty) Ltd, CC or sole proprietorship, ready for SARS, the bank or CIPC.
A 12-month view of what's coming in and going out, so decisions are based on numbers rather than hope.
Months or years behind? We rebuild your records from bank statements and bring everything up to date.
Add payroll and VAT to your bookkeeping package so one team looks after every number in the business.
Bookkeeping is the day-to-day record of what your business earns and spends. Done properly, it is the foundation for everything else: accurate VAT returns, a correct tax return, payslips that add up and reports you can trust.
Every month we capture your sales, purchases and expenses, reconcile every bank and credit-card account to the cent, keep your customer and supplier ledgers current and file the records SARS expects you to keep for five years. If you are registered for VAT, your books are kept in a way that makes the VAT201 a formality rather than a scramble. At month-end you get a short, readable report instead of a spreadsheet you have to decode.
You choose how often we work on your books — weekly, every two weeks or monthly — and whether you want to send us documents by email, WhatsApp or through a shared folder. Most clients simply forward invoices and bank statements as they come in and let us do the rest.
Doing the books yourself usually means doing them late at night, or not at all until SARS sends a letter. Hiring a full-time bookkeeper is expensive for a small business and still leaves you managing the work. Outsourcing to an established practice gives you an experienced bookkeeper and registered tax practitioners behind every entry, for a fraction of the cost of an employee.
We work with owner-managed businesses of every shape: trades and contractors, consultants and freelancers, shops and restaurants, medical and professional practices, property investors and online businesses. If you are a sole proprietor, we keep your business and personal finances cleanly separated so your ITR12 tax return and provisional tax are simple. If you have just registered a company, we set up the books correctly from day one — chart of accounts, invoicing, expense tracking and the SARS registrations that go with it.
Management accounts are the regular reports — usually monthly or quarterly — that show how the business is performing right now: income, expenses, profit, who owes you and who you owe. They are for you, the owner, and we write the commentary in plain language.
Annual financial statements are the formal year-end statements of your business. Companies need them for their ITR14 company tax return and, depending on size, for their CIPC annual return; banks and funders ask for them when you apply for finance; and sole proprietors use the figures on their personal return. Because we have kept the books all year, year-end is a wrap-up rather than a reconstruction.
Profit on paper and money in the bank are two different things. A cash-flow forecast maps the next twelve months of receipts and payments — including VAT, provisional tax and seasonal dips — so you can see a tight month coming and plan for it. We build the forecast from your actual history and update it as the year unfolds.
Our head office is in Elarduspark, Pretoria East, with a branch in Rietvalleirand, and clients in Centurion, Johannesburg and across Gauteng are welcome to pop in. Distance is no obstacle, though: we look after businesses in Cape Town, Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha) and everywhere in between, because the work happens on your documents, not in your office. Send us a WhatsApp and you will have the same bookkeeper every month, wherever you are in South Africa.
It happens to a lot of good businesses. We rebuild records from bank statements, sort out what can and cannot be claimed, bring your VAT and tax returns up to date and ask SARS to remit penalties where there is a case for it. Then we keep you current so it never happens again.
Tip: you do not need to tidy anything before you call. Send what you have — a shoebox of slips is a perfectly normal starting point.
A predictable routine, so nothing slips through the cracks.
Forward bank statements, invoices and slips by email or WhatsApp. We capture and reconcile everything.
If you have staff, payslips go out and the EMP201 (PAYE, UIF and SDL) is submitted and paid.
For VAT vendors, the return is prepared from reconciled books and filed by the last business day.
Management accounts with a short, plain-language summary of how the month went.
Estimates calculated from live figures and the IRP6 filed — no guessing.
Annual financial statements compiled and your ITR14 or ITR12 submitted on time.
Weekly or bi-weekly bookkeeping available for busier businesses.
Set up my monthly bookkeepingNo mountain of paperwork and no jargon — just three easy steps.
WhatsApp, call or email us. We'll ask a few questions about your size, your VAT status and how far behind (if at all) the books are.
You get an upfront monthly price for exactly the service you need — nothing hidden, no lock-in.
Forward your statements and invoices each month. We keep the books, file the returns and send you a clear report.
A bookkeeper records and reconciles the day-to-day transactions; an accountant uses those records to prepare financial statements, tax returns and advice. At Melletts you get both under one roof, with registered tax practitioners checking the tax side.
It depends on the number of transactions, whether you are VAT registered, whether you have staff and how often you want the books done. You will get a clear, fixed monthly quote upfront — send us a WhatsApp with a rough idea of your business and we will come back to you quickly.
We can work with the accounting package you already use or set one up for you. The software matters less than the discipline of reconciling every month — which is what we do.
Legally you must keep proper records, and in practice it is the only way to claim every expense you are entitled to and to get your provisional tax right. Many of our clients are one-person businesses.
As far back as you need. We have brought businesses that were several years behind fully up to date with SARS, one period at a time.
No. We have clients throughout Gauteng, in Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and elsewhere in South Africa. Documents move by email, WhatsApp or a shared folder, and we are a phone call away.
Payslips, PAYE, UIF, SDL, EMP201s and EMP501 reconciliations — every month, on time.
